Why Nottingham Forest are having a successful season

Nottingham has only played 3 seasons in the Premier League in the last 10 years. It is fair to say that they have never been relegated since their return to the elite division. But they were also on the brink in the previous two seasons. This season, however, things have changed. For those who focus on different football tips predictions, the current position of the team was a real surprise.

Today the team is in third place and is only 6 points behind the leader. Representatives of the xGscore.io platform studied in detail what Nottingham managed to achieve such success.

Reason 1. Personnel issue

After Steve Cooper’s dismissal in December 2023, Nottingham management signed a contract with Portuguese Nuno Espirito Santo. And it was an excellent decision. The experienced Portuguese specialist spent half a year to fulfill the priority task of staying in the elite division. And then began to develop the club.

The first task for him was to deal with the same problem that Chelsea faced now, namely the huge number of players. The club had an oversupply of:

  • goalkeepers (5 players under contract in this position);
  • defensive midfielders;
  • central midfielders;
  • attacking midfielders.

All players (and last season 39 players played for the last season) had no place even in the application form. Therefore, the team said goodbye to 21 players at once. Therefore, the team said goodbye to 21 players at once.

At the same time, new players were signed. But all of them were in good shape, had game practice, and were needed as a point reinforcement of the team.

Reason 2. Good calendar

In the first 10 rounds, Santo’s wards had to face only Liverpool and Chelsea. At the same time, they managed to win against Liverpool, while they drew with Chelsea. Having gained confidence the team started to play more successfully with the mid-table sides and beat teams from the bottom of the table. Only 0:3 defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City can be called a failure.

Undoubtedly, the calendar influenced the good start of the team. But this is not the only condition, thanks to which Nottingham shows itself perfectly on the soccer field. After all, to win in 12 matches out of 20 is not possible for everyone.

Reason 3. Quality of team play

Nuno Espirito Santo was able to give one of the outsiders quality and mature soccer. Thanks to this, they can impose their style on any opponent and have stopped being put off by what their opponents offer them. Among other things, the team began to play first number one against opponents, against whom they previously did not allow themselves such luxury.

While on both teams to score betting tips may not be worth it. But the fact that in their matches they will score goals more often than not is certain. At least Chris Wood, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Anthony Elanga are trying hard. Morgan Gibbs-White has been rediscovered and has started to be called up to the England national team (Nottingham hasn’t had an England international for 27 years). Also to be found on the extended national team rosters are the names of?

  • Ryan Yates;
  • Elliot Anderson;
  • James Ward-Prowse.

Especially interesting is the situation with Yates, who has never even been called up to the junior national team. Nottingham has not had such several quality players for a long time. And their coach deserves a lot of credit for that.

Conclusion

No one can tell you how Nottingham will fare next season. But in the current one, they resemble the brilliant Leicester 2016. The team management and coach are not going to stop there and are confident that they have not yet reached the ceiling of their team’s capabilities. Let’s see if they can stay in the tops until the end of the season, but so far this is a pretty confident team that can do anything. And Nottingham is already feared not only by the mid-table sides but also by the big six clubs.
