A Bloodborne Walkthrough for the Valiant and Bloodthirsty

Welcome, Hunters, to the forsaken streets of Yharnam, a gothic metropolis consumed by a horrifying plague and teeming with nightmarish beasts.  Bloodborne, the acclaimed action RPG by FromSoftware, throws you into the role of a Hunter, tasked with unraveling the mysteries of the Bloodborne scourge and emerging victorious.

This comprehensive walkthrough equips you with the knowledge and strategies to navigate the perilous streets, conquer monstrous foes, and ultimately,  transcend the hunt.

The Awakening: Central Yharnam and Early Preparations

Embrace the Nightmare: After a chilling introduction, you’ll find yourself in the Hunter’s Dream, a sanctuary between hunts. Here, you’ll receive essential items like the Hunter Pistol and Bloodborne Vials, used to replenish your health.

A Hunter’s Arsenal: Choose your starting weapon wisely. The Saw Cleaver offers a balanced mix of speed and power, while the blunderbuss prioritizes ranged attacks. Explore Central Yharnam to discover alternative weapons like the Ludwig’s Holy Blade (ideal for crowd control) or the Axe (high damage but slower swings).

Facing the Scourge: Step out into the perilous streets of Central Yharnam. Expect aggressive enemies called Werwolves to lurk in the shadows. Master the art of dodging and counterattacks to overcome them. Explore alleyways and buildings to uncover healing items and shortcut gates that become permanent timesavers.

The Hunter’s Dream: As you progress, you’ll be transported back to the Hunter’s Dream after each hunt. Here, you can level up your character, purchase new weapons and items from the Insight Bath shop using Insight (earned by defeating enemies and bosses), and interact with enigmatic NPCs who offer cryptic clues and quests.

Fashion and Function: While armor choices primarily influence your appearance, consider sets that offer a balance of defense and mobility. The Hunter Set provides a good starting point.

Early Boss: The Cleric Beast:  This hulking monstrosity guards the bridge leading out of Central Yharnam.  The key to defeating the Cleric Beast lies in recognizing its attack patterns.  Dodge its swipes and unleash punishing combos after its attacks end.  Molotov Cocktails inflict significant damage,  so  use  them  strategically.  Defeating  the  Cleric  Beast  grants  you  the  Cleric Beast  Icon,  allowing  you  to  purchase  new  items  from  the  Insight Bath shop.

Delving Deeper: Unraveling Yharnam’s Secrets

Cathedral Ward: Beyond Central Yharnam lies Cathedral Ward, a district plagued by religious fanaticism and beasts. Expect new enemy types, like Scourge Beasts who throw fire bombs. Explore the Grand Cathedral to find important items and unlock shortcuts. Beware of the Snatchers lying in wait on the cathedral rooftop.

Yharnam Underground: Descend into the depths of Yharnam Underground to face even more gruesome enemies like the Blood-lickers. This area is optional but rewards exploration with valuable items and another shortcut. Proceed with caution as the darkness limits visibility. Carry antidotes to counteract the poisonous swamps.

The Forbidden Woods: The Forbidden Woods offer a change of scenery with lush forests and abandoned villages. Be wary of ambushes from Snatchers and werewolf-like enemies. This area introduces environmental hazards like poison swamps. Carry antidotes to counter their effects.

Mid-Game Boss: Vicar Amelia:  This  tragic  boss  fight  takes  place  in  the  Cathedral Ward  after  collecting  specific  items  and  progressing  the  story.  Vicar Amelia attacks with a combination of swipes and lunges.  Dodge  aggressively  and  punish  with  combos  during  openings  after  her  attacks.  Use  Molotov Cocktails  to  exploit  her  fire  weakness.  Defeating  Vicar Amelia  grants  you  a  valuable  item  needed  to  progress  further.

The Nightmare Intensifies: Into the Later Stages of the Hunt

Upper Cathedral Ward and Yahar’gul Chapel: These interconnected areas test your combat prowess and environmental awareness. Expect ambushes from various enemies, including new strains of Scourge Beasts and cloaked Hunters. Be mindful of your footing as some pathways crumble beneath your weight. Explore thoroughly to find important items and unlock shortcuts. The Yahar’gul Chapel introduces a mechanic where you must silence bells to progress safely.

Boss: The One Reborn:  A grotesque amalgamation of flesh and bone,  The One Reborn  occupies  the  highest  point  of  Upper Cathedral Ward.  This  boss  fight  requires  strategy  and  patience.  Dodge  its  lumbering  attacks  and  focus  on  damaging  its  glowing  sacs  on  its  arms  and  back.  Utilize  Beast-blood Pellets  to  increase  your  damage  output  during  this  fight.  Defeating  The One Reborn  grants  access  to  the  Forbidden Lands.

Forbidden Lands and Mensis’ Nightmare: The Forbidden Lands are a desolate wasteland patrolled by hostile Hunters and monstrosities. This area is optional but holds valuable items and lore entries. Mensis’ Nightmare, accessed through a hidden well, is a surreal dreamscape filled with challenging enemies and puzzles. Be prepared for cosmic horror as you traverse this mind-bending labyrinth.

Boss: Micolash, Host of the Nightmare:  A  deranged  scholar  who  has  succumbed  to  the  nightmare,  Micolash  resides  deep  within  Mensis’ Nightmare.  This  boss  fight  is  unique  as  it  focuses  more  on  avoiding  his  eldritch  attacks  and  following  him  through  a  shifting  landscape.  Stay  close  to  him  and  punish  with  melee  attacks  when  opportunities  arise.  Defeating  Micolash  grants  a  crucial  item  needed  for  the  final  confrontation.

The Blood Moon Rises: Confronting the Source of the Nightmare

Cainhurst Castle (Optional):  Accessible  through  a  hidden  carriage  ride  in  Hemwick Charnel Lane,  Cainhurst Castle  is  an  optional  area  steeped  in  gothic  horror.  Expect  aristocratic  enemies  and  a  unique  boss  fight.  Exploring  the  castle  rewards  you  with  valuable  items  and  lore  entries  that  enrich  the  narrative.

Iosefka’s Clinic (Optional):  Revisiting  Iosefka’s Clinic  after  progressing  through  the  story  unlocks  a  hidden  area  with  a  formidable  optional  boss  fight.  This  encounter  tests  your  combat  skills  and  offers  a  unique  story  beat  depending  on  your  choices  throughout  the  game.

Final Preparations:  Before  facing  the  final  bosses,  ensure  you’ve  upgraded  your  weapons  and  armor  to  their  highest  potential.  Stock  up  on  Blood Vials,  Molotov Cocktails,  and  Beast-blood Pellets.  Consider  summoning  online  Hunters  for  co-op  assistance  if  needed.
