The Suariwak Shrine: A Trial by Bananas and Blades

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom throws players into a Hyrule brimming with secrets and challenges. One such challenge is the Suariwak Shrine, a hidden gem nestled within the Gerudo Canyon. Packed with puzzles and steeped in Yiga Clan lore, the Suariwak Shrine offers a unique test for players seeking valuable rewards.

This guide delves deep into the Suariwak Shrine, uncovering its secrets, challenges, and the path to unlocking its treasures.

Unveiling the Suariwak Shrine: Location and Access

The Suariwak Shrine isn’t readily accessible.  Here’s how to find and unlock it:

Location:

Travel to the northwestern edge of the Gerudo Canyon. Look for a small, seemingly unremarkable building nestled amongst the rocks.  This is the Yiga Blademaster Station, which serves as the entrance to the Suariwak Shrine.

Unlocking the Entrance:

Accessing the Suariwak Shrine requires completing a unique side quest.  Speak to Kass, the wandering musician, near Gerudo Canyon Stable. He’ll reveal a rumor about a Yiga Clan exam to become a Blademaster.  Intrigued, head to the Yiga Blademaster Station.

The Yiga Clan Exam:

Inside the station, you’ll encounter a Yiga Blademaster who lays out the challenge. To prove your worth and gain access to the shrine, you need to complete the “Yiga Clan Exam.”

Here’s where things get interesting:

The Yiga Clan Exam: A Test of Cunning and Bananas

The Yiga Clan Exam isn’t your typical combat challenge. It’s a test of stealth, resourcefulness, and, surprisingly, bananas! Here’s how to pass this unconventional exam:

The Yiga Informant:

The Blademaster reveals five hidden Frog Statues scattered throughout the Gerudo Canyon, each marked with the Yiga Clan symbol. However, he neglects to tell you what to do with them.

Here’s the key:

you need to make an offering of Mighty Bananas at each Frog Statue.  Yes, bananas!  Mighty Bananas are a special type of banana found throughout Hyrule, often guarded by Bokoblins.

Finding Mighty Bananas:

While the exact locations of Mighty Bananas can vary depending on your playthrough, they’re typically found in Bokoblin camps, hidden within treasure chests, or dropped by defeated Bokoblins.

Offering at the Frog Statues:

Once you have enough Mighty Bananas, travel to each of the five Frog Statues marked on your map.  Interact with the statue and offer a Mighty Banana.  If successful, the statue’s eyes will glow red, signifying your offering has been accepted.

Here’s a helpful tip:

Equip the Sheikah Sensor to pinpoint the exact locations of the Frog Statues once you’re near them.

Returning to the Yiga Blademaster:

After offering a Mighty Banana at all five Frog Statues, return to the Yiga Blademaster at the station. He’ll be surprised by your success and acknowledge your cunning. With the exam passed, the entrance to the Suariwak Shrine activates, revealing a hidden doorway within the station.

Conquering the Suariwak Shrine: Puzzles and Rewards

Having passed the Yiga Clan Exam, you’re now ready to tackle the Suariwak Shrine itself.  Here’s what awaits you:

Trial of Blades:

The first challenge throws you into a training arena.  Several remote-controlled Bokoblin training dummies will attack you.  Defeat them all using any means necessary to progress.

Remote Control Challenge:

The next challenge requires using the Sheikah Slate’s Remote Bomb module strategically.  Several metal boxes block your path.  Use Remote Bombs to detonate them strategically, creating a path forward and activating hidden mechanisms.

Trial of the Wind:

This challenge utilizes the Windcleaver ability of the Sheikah Slate.  Use Windcleaver to create updrafts and propel yourself across gaps and reach higher platforms.

Monk Maz Koshia and the Reward:

After successfully navigating the challenges, you’ll reach the Monk Maz Koshia.  He’ll reward you with a Spirit Orb for completing the Suariwak Shrine.  Spirit Orbs are essential for increasing your health or stamina capacity.

Beyond the Challenge: The Lore of the Suariwak Shrine

The Suariwak Shrine offers more than just a challenging puzzle experience.  Here are some interesting lore points to consider:
